New Orleans Style Your Sole Shoe Drop

A group of thirty volunteers spent the week of August 20th to 26th on a TOMS Shoe Drop in New Orleans, delivering white canvas shoes to children at five local schools. TOMS has given shoes in various countries internationally since 2006, and began giving in the USA in the fall of 2008.

“The domestic need is very different from the need in international places TOMS gives shoes,” explains Programs Manager Ana Maria. “In the states, kids may be wearing shoes that are too big or small, worn out beyond repair or shared, and we want to bring awareness to that. Every child should have a pair of comfortable shoes to call their own.”

Volunteers were excited to help, and the schools were extremely appreciative that TOMS was there to give new shoes to their scholars.

For USA Style Your Sole Shoe Drops, TOMS gives white canvas shoes and art supplies to the schools and encourages the children to decorate their own pair. Founder and Chief Shoe Giver Blake Mycoskie saw one design he liked at Langston Hughes Academy and sent a twit pic from the Shoe Drop, “Joseph’s design at New Orleans Shoe Drop”
